Well.....we waited, and waited, and Gunns have gone......what will that mean?

No pulping for now anyway............

Can we concentrate on all the other stuff that really contaminates our river- without a pulp mill!
Like people poohing by the water!

Has anyone noticed, sailing starts in October, and we still don't have a toilet at Deviot!
Yep the WTC have budgetted again - jut to keep us crossing our legs.......

Another big week!

Following reference from a fellow pooh watcher, Pooh Alert Team (PAT) decided to investigate just how much pooh it apparent.

Yesterday, 11 deposits were indentified, marked and samples taken.

It seems that some deposits are quite similar- posing the possiblity that the site has a regular bogger.

New forensic opportunites for microbiology, and dna testing may present some interesting information.

Don wishes to thank PAT for this busy day, which has been recorded.

New Boatshed Presents Opportunity
Deviot Sailing Club have begun excavations to extend their boatshed.
(Great opportunity to include a bathroom! The WTCouncil could even use our rates to fund it.)
Don had a helper mark the territory on the w/end.
Simple solution.....everyone's happy!

Cheers!

Pick it up!
New sign today, with accompanying 'not for your dog bags'.
Bizarre as life is, the WT Council have a policy on what to do when your dog drops in public (see below), but no rules or recommendations for 'people's pooh.' Here at Pooh Corner, we have taken the initiative to provide bags (and gloves) to help you in those embarrassing moments when you are just tou-louse to hold on!
Why?
Because we love our river.......
We know  all that drops on to 'pooh corner' seeps into the water.....
and we are still waiting for WTC to build a public toilet....
....................................Where do you think it should go?

Cleaning Up
When your dog is in a public place you are always required to clean up after it. Dog faeces are unpleasant and damage the environment. Cleaning up can be done simply and easily with the aid of a scooper or plastic bag and placing the faeces into the nearest rubbish bin.

This does not apply to a guide dog that is accompanying a wholly or partially blind person.

Failure to clean up after your dog can result in a fine of up to $300.

Rain dissolves dog faeces and they are washed into our waterways. Marine plant and animal life are affected by this pollution. Australian beaches are closed for several days after rain because of this type of pollution. Dog faeces contain E-coli bacteria, which can cause ongoing illness in people

At Deviot, just up from the jetty is this tiny space treed on three sides- nice place for a picnic, but alas, no toilet anywhere around, best place to hide for instant relief.

....trouble is, it is so close to the water, all that good stuff breaks down and seeps into the water........

and, that's the same water that
you are pulling fish out of!

and, our kids sail in........

The wierd thing is.........

...........we are used to 'scooping the poop' after dogs, but take no responsibility for our own deposits?  What are we thinking?

..not even concealed..

..not even dug in...

We need to rethink this!
